The original version of the following 3.5-minute Virtual Reality movie is about 190 MB. With normal viewing which requires for the entire file to download before playing, it would be almost impossible to viewed this clip over an ordinary Internet connection. However, PetaNet uses a special Client/Server Steaming technology that makes it possible to view such a large piece over the Internet.

This streaming technology uses standard http protocol, so it cannot be blocked by Firewalls. Because it uses a playerless technology, it does not rely on any specific Media Player. All that is needed is a Java enabled browser. It automatically detects the bandwidth, and almost immediately plays a version of the movie that best suites the viewer's bandwidth.
